I did a lot of research prior to purchasing this phone set and have been very happy. Sound quality, especially with the speaker phone is very good. One of my big problems with the phone and mentioned in other reviews was a "lag time" when dialing. I'm using a VOIP system (JoiPhone) and after upgrading my VOIP gizmo the lag time disappeared! I love that it uses standard AAA NiMH batteries since they are easy to upgrade/replace. Don't have too much to say about the base station or answering machine since we use the VOIP system for messages. Love the 2 lines! If someone is talking on Line 1 it automatically switches to line 2 when you make a call.The buttons text has not warn off after over a year of use. I have a very large 2 story spread out home and reception has never been an issue even with the base station located in a non central location. I like the fact that the handset is a little small and I'd prefer it being even smaller...kinda used to an iPhone. In closing I highly recommend this product although not sure if Phillips produces it anymore (not available on their website).

This is my second 659 from Philips. The handset from my first unit (reliable and performed well for the past 2.5 years) had water spilled on it ruining the screen display. Otherwise it works perfectly. Initially I thought to buy a remote unit and use the handset only as a replacement, until I discovered that getting an entirely new unit was cost equivalent.
I've had many 2-line phones through the years, some good, most marginal. The Philips Dect 6.0 SE659 is my favorite. The range on the handset, while not the best I've had, is still pretty decent in comparison to what's out there. I can easily go 130-150 feet outside when base-phone is relatively unobstructed. With walls, in the house, the range diminishes to about 100 feet before you begin hearing a beeping sound on your end only that let's you know you're out of range. For cordless phone users, this attribute is probably the most significant, unless of course you're an answering machines fanatic. If you are, good news, the answering machine on this unit is terrific. I does all you need and then some. Time and date stamp, caller ID, phone log, speaker phone, user friendly and easy to learn. It's compact so it doesn't take up much space and has a pleasing, clean line, as a whole.
Set up is relatively easy if you follow the manual. Once you have it down, you can adjust rings to identify the different lines, store numbers, store up to 50 Caller ID tags, and pretty much do it all and them some. Very versatile.
The only problem I've encountered with this unit is relatively minor. When removing handset from the base, the Line 1 and Line 2 display on handset isn't present. You can play back your messages from the handset, dial from Line 1, but you can't dial from Line2 without first going through Line 1 to get Line readout on the screen. Mildly bothersome if one line is a home line and the second is used for business and you want to dial out on the business line. Other than that, I've had nice luck with this product and am now using the damaged unit as a remote phone in a bedroom. Only wish the additional handsets were cheaper.

Bought this to replace an old non-dect Panasonic set. Looks great but as other reviews stated the performance is terrible. User Interface is poor (not intuitive, too many buttons to press to get to basic functions), sound quality is not great but worst of all is the battery life. A one hour conference call ends up killing 3 handsets - hey last about 20 mins and then need to be recharged. We had this product about a year and finally replaced them with the Panasonic dect product
